Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz says, "He was a person of interest in the investigation back in 1990. Due to some of the evidence pointing in his direction, however, it was after the additional evidence was put together by this cold case team that my office made the decision to charge him."

Police say robbery may have been the motive, since a number of silver bars were missing from Whittaker's trailer.

Dunnuck was arrested on Tuesday while hiding in his basement in Byron, Michigan.

He faces arraignment today in Cass County
